Benefits Of Fasting

 Benefits of fasting in Ramadan

More than one billion Muslims globally practice a strict ritual of moral abstinence and fasting during the month of Ramadan. The tradition of fasting dates back more than 1,300 years and started with the formation of Islam. Given below are numerous benefits of fasting in Ramadan.

Elevated blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity are the four main risk factors for heart disease, and they can all be lowered by fasting.

Healthier Blood Pressure:

Blood pressure can be kept at a healthy level by fasting. According to studies, fasting can help reduce blood pressure. It consequently lowers the possibility of getting heart disease.

Maintaining a Healthy Cholesterol Level

Heart disease may occur as a result of high cholesterol levels. Atherosclerosis, a disease where the arteries narrow and blood flow to the heart muscles is compromised, can result from high blood cholesterol levels because it can build up in the artery walls. Heart disease develops as a consequence of this. Fasting lowers LDL levels and keeps them at healthy levels. As a result, there is a lower chance of developing heart illness.

Diabetes:

High blood sugar levels in diabetes result in the development of heart illness as a result. The body uses the glycogen, or stored energy, in the liver during the fasting period. The body can take up to 8 hours to use this sugar that has been retained. As a result, both the risk of getting heart disease and blood sugar levels are decreased.

Weight Loss:

One of the main factors that contributes to cardiac disease is obesity. Obesity can cause the buildup of fat in your arteries, which blocks the flow of oxygen to the heart and causes heart failure.

When glycogen stores run low during extended fasting, your body switches to using fat for energy instead of glycogen. Your body's excess fat will be eliminated, your weight will decrease, and eventually, your risk of developing heart disease will decrease.

Digestive and immune benefits of Fasting:

Stomach acid is necessary to process food and kill bacteria; fasting lowers it.

Maintaining digestive health is another benefit of fasting. Ramadan, when fasting is observed for the entire month, encourages the growth of fresh white blood cells. It is the immune system's overall renewal. This will help the body fight off different bacterial and viral infections by strengthening it even more.

Positive psychological state:

People become psychologically stronger and more powerful when they refrain from bad habits during the month of Ramadan, exercise self-control, and put their ideas into perspective.

Cognitive Development

Fasting enhances mental function and memory. It lessens brain damage, delays neurodegeneration, and enhances cognitive recovery following stroke.

The Pleasure of Allah:

The most beautiful benefit of Fasting is the pleasure of Allah. It has been narrated in Hadith Qudsi that Allah says:

كُلُّ عَمَلِ ابْنِ آدَمَ لَهُ إِلَّا الصِّيَامَ، فَاِنَّهُ لِی وَاَنَا اَجْزِیْ بِهِ

(Sahih Al-Bukhari)

“Every action of Ibn-e-Adam is for him, except fasting, So it is for (the sake of) me and will reward for it.”

Conclusion:

As Muslims, we must observe fasting during the whole month of Ramadan. Its benefits are not religious limited only. Fasting benefits us with many physical and psychological benefits. It helps to reduce the risks of many dangerous diseases. We must seek the pleasure of Allah in each deed, then we will be able to get the real positive outcomes.
